Our first full week of the term saw another busy week at Leith Walk Primary School. The week started with a whole school Daily Mile on Monday, as well as an assembly on the Commonwealth Games and wider achievement. Our Active Schools Extra Curricular Clubs for term 4 started. Please note that the booking facility has reopened and the P.1-2 football on Fridays is now open to P.3s. Football for P.4s – 7s is also being planned.
The P.7s had their photo taken on Tuesday for the Evening News supplement which will be included in the editions on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th May.
Following interviews for our vacant School Administrator post, I am able to share with you that Mrs Vicky Ferguson is the nominated candidate, subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks. We look forward to welcoming her to our school community and I will advise of when she will be taking up post once checks are completed.
House meetings took place on Friday, and a talent show is being planned for later this term. Please encourage your child to showcase their talents.
Our average school attendance for the first week back was 96.17%, with 5 out of the 10 stages (N.3, N.4, N.5, P.1, P.2, P.3, P.4, P.5, P.6, P.7) having an average attendance of over 95%. P.7 had a fantastic 99.55%. Week beginning 23rd April, saw our average school attendance rise to 97.36%, with 7 out of 10 stages having an average of over 95%. P.5 had a superb 99.03% and P.4 had an amazing 99.22%. Well done Leith Walk!!
Next week, letters will be sent out to children who are due to join our nursery in August 2018. Some children, staff and parents/carers will be getting together at our Fundraising Committee meeting on Wednesday 2nd May at 2.30 p.m. in the meeting room. The main purpose of this is for children, staff and parents/carers to be working together to be planning ahead and fundraising through bagpacking, grant applications etc on a more ongoing basis, rather than only for certain activities. This way, we would hope to build up our money and be able to be more responsive as needs arise. Please pop along to give your ideas and support. Our week will finish off with a First Friday Bake Sale on Friday 4th May, 11.30 a.m. – 12.45 p.m.
