Last week was World of Work Week at LWPS! We were lucky enough to be visited by the McDonald Road Fire Service and some Navy Sea Divers. It was inspiring to hear first hand about the dedication and fitness required for roles such as these. The children across primary 3 are encouraged and motivated about their futures. A big thank you to all of our visitors!
World of Work Week raised awareness of the ‘ work place’ and the variety of jobs and occupations there are. We hope to raise children’s aspirations and help them gain knowledge of the skills needed for various occupations. We thoroughlly enjoyed our week and we hope you enjoy taking a look at some of our pictures.
We are so excited to be working with the Edinburgh Art Festival and the Dazzle Ship project to complete Maths, Technologies and Art design challenges.
Dazzle Ship designs were painted on to World War I battleships to ‘dazzle’ the on-coming enemy. It is thought that the optical illusion designs, confused the enemy ships and made them unsure of which direction they were travelling in. They were also fascinating to look at, with interesting colours and patterns.
The ‘Dazzle Ship’ Leith was situated down by Ocean Terminal until it was recently decomissioned. A shame, but you can research some of the images on-line.
We have created some amazing ‘dazzled’ art work and would like to you to take a look…
World Book Day 2017 was a great success in P3B. We had some fantastic costumes and we all had the chance to talk about our favourite book characters. We also had a super fun lesson about ‘The Tunnel’ by Anthony Browne. We were learning to read pictures for information and that sometimes the pictures can have hidden meanings! What can you spot?
Check out some of our photos below!
Primary Three and Primary Four came together last week for our Christmas party. We enjoyed playing some party games, such as Christmas Corners, Musical Statues and Pass the Parcel. We also used this opportunity to showcase our Ceilidh Dancing skills! Primary Three have been learning different Ceilidh dances in PE, and were keen to show off their learning. We started our party with the Gay Gordon’s, had a go at the Britannia Two Step in the middle of our party, and ended with a rousing Strip the Willow. We finished off our party with some treats and a movie in classes. Great fun was had by all, and the Ceilidh dancing was fantastic!
Merry Christmas to all families from Miss Lumsden and Miss Grandison.
It was a very exciting afternoon today when the Hibernian FC ‘Persevered Scottish Cup Trophy Tour’ visited us.
