We are building our ‘Learning Toolkit’ in school. This is a programme promoting the skill of ‘metacognition’, which means to think about thinking, to help children grow as learners and strengthen their understanding of their own learning. This was launched at the end of the 2018/19 session.
As a school, we have created a Toolkit, in consultation with what children and staff think are important attributes for learning. We had a launch event and each week introduced a new learning tool in assembly. Our toolkit includes skills such as perseverance, curiosity and creativity, challenge, resourcefulness, engagement and determination to succeed.
This session, children who have displayed one or more of the learning tools well are recognised during assembly. Every class has a toolkit display and staff and pupils can refer to these when talking about their learning.
